For the first time in many years, work by members of Tyne & Esk’s eight writing groups has been brought together in this anthology, edited by poet and writer Claire Askew. Within these pages you will find stories of defeat and triumph, mystery and revelation; and poems in a variety of forms, both lyrical and narrative.

“I am deeply impressed by the work of the Tyne & Esk Writers. They produce poems and stories that are honest, thought-provoking and always entertaining. There is rich talent here, and this is an anthology to be savoured.”

Catherine Simpson, author of Truestory, and Tyne & Esk Writer of the Year 2013

download-e1395587477239A collection of short pieces written by Graham Leake (Dalkeith Group) over the past decade. The pieces include a short story, a couple of poems, a sketch, anecdotes and commentaries on social and political issues which express clearly his prejudices. The aim of the writing of most of them was to amuse listeners or readers. He hopes he is successful in that objective.

This collection comes with a CD inside the back cover of Graham reading eleven of the pieces.  Copies of the book will be available at future functions or you can email the author here.

“Graham Leake’s collection of stories, poems and other pieces is a gentle, wry, often amusing take on modern life. It is a pleasure to read.” Alan Reid

The Honolulu Penny and Other Stories

30th August 2016

The-Honolulu-Penny-e1395588115731The Honolulu Penny is a collection of short stories published by Ken W Angus (paperback 2011). Cost is £8.50 + postage (currently 80p) from author at 12 Temple Village, Gorebridge, EH23 4SQ, tel 01875 830255.

Alan Reid says: “The Honolulu Penny and other stories is a welcome new collection of short fiction by Ken Angus. It comprises thirteen tales, mostly short pieces, although the author’s ability to sustain a longer narrative is also evident in two stories, including the title one itself. Regardless of length, all the pieces included here reveal an elegant and precise writing style. There is an intelligence at work in these stories…..and often they feature a wry, observant humour……at other times a gentle line in horror is employed…..quite often the baddies in these stories get their comeuppance. This collection shows Ken Angus to be a writer in control of his prose. He tells his stories with authority – as soon as you start reading you know that you are in safe hands.”
