Writer of the Year Competitions 2024

The two competitions will run concurrently – the WOTY for Poetry; the WOTY for Prose – but with a cash prize, as listed below.

  1. Each competition will attract a £75 prize (and a paperweight). All entrants can enter one or two pieces, whether two for one or one for each of the competitions. Entry is free, but you must be a member, i.e. have paid a sub of £20 to Tyne and Esk Writers.
  2. The Judge will be Eleanor Thom, whose decisions will be final. The awards will be made after the AGM which will be held at 7 pm on Monday 21st October in the Victoria Inn, 9 Court Street, Haddington (near town centre).

  3. The entry must be the author’s original work and not have been published before. It may be on any subject. Prose entries may be up to 2000 words excluding the title and pages should be numbered. Poetry entries may be up to 40 lines excluding the title. Entries may be in Scots or English. All entries should be typed in 12 point Ariel or Times New Roman or Calibri.
